Environmental Services Technician
is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient and resident rooms and assigned areas for patients, residents, visitors, and associates while following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. The position involves cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas. Protective equipment must be worn as directed, storage and equipment kept stocked and tidy, and pagers or other technology used appropriately. Physical demands include frequent movement, lifting 40–50 lbs, and prolonged standing. Work hours vary and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
Empty waste baskets, sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors using brooms, mops, or powered machines.
Apply housekeeping processes and techniques in a healthcare setting to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients and facility staff.
Ensure cleanliness of patient and resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
Wear proper protective equipment as per guidelines.
Keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
Assist in laundry areas as appropriate.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
Ability to use a computer; prior cleaning experience helpful.
Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals helpful.
Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
