Unix/Linux Administrator
We are seeking a Unix/Linux Administrator to design, implement, and maintain Linux-based systems for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) project. In this role you will ensure our systems are stable, secure, and performant while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to support mission‑critical applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN, etc.).

Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, etc.).

Expertise in shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and troubleshooting.

Experience with version control tools like Git.

Understanding of system security best practices and tools.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability to complete technical projects independently.

Strong problem‑solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.

Install, configure, and maintain Linux‑based servers and systems (RedHat).

Manage system performance, monitoring, backups, and troubleshooting.

Ensure system security by configuring to CIS recommended baselines and applying patches and updates.

Collaborate with the other operations teams to configure environments and troubleshoot system‑related issues.

Monitor and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues in a timely manner.

Perform routine system upgrades, patching, and security compliance checks.

Provide troubleshooting and technical support for escalated issues.

Resolve incidents and tasks as assigned.

Provide emergency response to critical outages or incidents.

Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for internal use.

Required and Desired Skills/Certifications

Must be able to meet DoD IAT Level 2 Certification requirements (Security+ CE, CCNA‑Security, GSEC, or SSCP).

Desirable: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC‑2), or CompTIA Linux+.

Background and Citizenship Requirements
Must possess or be eligible to obtain and successfully complete a Public Trust background investigation and/or a Public Trust clearance. Citizenship Status Required: U.S. Citizen.

Location and Work Arrangement
Washington, DC (Hybrid). Telework is provided. Onsite support at FTC Headquarters at least 2 times per week or as needed.
