Responsibilities
Respond to environmental calls (temperature, mechanical noise, odors, etc.) from customers and troubleshoot associated systems to determine the cause of the problem.
Maximize effective operational control of equipment using the building automation system (BAS). Managed equipment includes HVAC, electrical, lighting, compressors, domestic and lab water, sump pumps, vacuum, steam, and exhaust.
Install, operate, and adjust pneumatic and digital automation and control system controllers and associated components (sensors, actuators, relays, transducers, variable frequency drives, controllers, etc.) on network‑connected or stand‑alone systems.
Troubleshoot and create new control sequences and programs.
Set up and record trends, historical, and totalization data logs to determine utility consumption and identify campus‑wide issues.
Perform system analysis and develop strategies to improve efficiency using real‑time data, data logs, psychrometric charts, spreadsheets, and utility manager software applications.
Monitor, adjust, balance, test, calibrate, schedule, troubleshoot, repair, install, perform performance testing, and commission direct digital controls (DDC).
Back up databases and perform system software and hardware upgrades.
Maintain and troubleshoot BAS servers, networks, and databases.
Work with Maintenance and Operations personnel to review, inspect, and record project information; collaborate with contractors on project scope, quotations, and work completion.
Provide support and training to departmental personnel as required.
Assist in complex work projects or special assignments and ensure proper care of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Ensure compliance with safety guidelines for employees and vendors.
Operate UF vehicle(s) and obtain a State of Florida Class “E” Operator License within 60 days of employment.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, four years of HVAC, chiller, and/or electrical experience, and two years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining building automation systems (BAS) and accessories. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute for required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced building automation system (BAS) skills.
Advanced understanding of laboratory environmental systems controls.
Familiarity with MS Office Suite software applications (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).
Knowledge of BACnet and other gateway protocols.
Computer hardware and networking knowledge and basic electrical and electronics knowledge.
Work Schedule
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (40 hours/week). Emergency work and on‑call as required. Position considered Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.
