We are seeking an Area Manager to join our AU Transportation Operations Management team to support our Craigieburn Sort Center and manage transportation yard operations. The Transportation Area Manager is responsible for managing yard operations in coordination with Dock, Receive and Ship teams to ensure FIFO processing and mitigate Customer Experience impact risks. An ideal candidate has a background in transportation operations and excellent program management skills. The candidate must lead and mentor people, analyze data, and make sound recommendations in an often ambiguous environment. They should be able to standardize and improve processes while analyzing and eliminating root causes of defects within current systems. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence change at a local (site) and global level are also required.
Key Job Responsibilities
Create, oversee, and drive a culture of safety and well‑being.
Partner with site leadership and transportation partners to improve on‑time arrival and departure performance of trucks in and out of yards, delivering high Customer Experience metrics.
Communicate between multiple stakeholders to streamline the flow of trucks in the yard.
Accountable for reporting yard performance to the local site leadership, identifying root causes for structural issues and driving resolution with multiple stakeholders.
Proactively identify and lead process improvement initiatives and implement Lean tools.
Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs while measuring and identifying activities performed.
Work some weekend shifts as needed (this team provides tactical support to Amazon’s fulfillment network 7 days/week).
Lead, manage and develop small teams.
Respond to and manage incidents in conjunction with various stakeholders.
A day in the life
You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, making sure it is as productive as it can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety and uphold quality and shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements and drive implementation. A typical day is varied, including routine team management, daily operational responsibilities, process improvement, and wide‑scale operational contingency tasks. You’ll be a role model and mentor to your team.

Basic Qualifications
Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, macros, index/match, vlookup, VBA, data links, etc.).
Experience building and growing relationships with internal and external partners.
Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in operations, transportation, supply chain, logistics, or a relevant field.
Experience in performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques.
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and process improvement methodologies.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or equivalent qualification.
