
Associate Distribution Engineer

Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Asheville, North Carolina.
Overview
This role involves designing and supporting electric utility distribution systems, working both in the field and office environments. The engineer will collaborate with clients, develop work packages, perform engineering calculations, and support construction activities to ensure high-quality project delivery.
Responsibilities
Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV
Coordinate conflicting utilities, assess and develop complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
Conduct engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags, voltage drop, and flicker
Prepare permitting documents and support construction activities, including inspections and post-construction reviews
Travel to project sites as needed to perform inspections and field work
Support work permit development, easements, ROW applications, and provide engineering support during construction
Conduct root cause analysis of outages and propose mitigation solutions
Qualifications
Completed Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for field travel
Willingness to perform both field and office work, with ability to work outdoors occasionally
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
Experience with CAD tools, MicroStation, and GIS
Knowledge of NESC and design standards
Background Check and Drug Screen may be required.
