Orthopedic Hand Surgeon Position Summary

The Orthopedic Hand Surgeon provides comprehensive evaluation, surgical, and non-surgical treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and upper extremity. This role includes management of traumatic injuries, degenerative conditions, congenital abnormalities, and work-related or repetitive-use disorders. The surgeon works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered orthopedic care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat disorders of the hand, wrist, and upper extremity

  • Perform elective and emergent surgical procedures within the scope of hand surgery

  • Manage traumatic injuries, including fractures, tendon, nerve, and soft tissue injuries

  • Provide non-operative care such as injections, splinting, and rehabilitation planning

  • Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans

  • Participate in call coverage for hand and upper-extremity trauma as required

  • Collaborate with therapists, advanced practice providers, and referring physicians

  • Educate patients and families regarding conditions, treatment options, and recovery

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation

  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical education activities

Practice Setting
  • Hospital and outpatient clinic settings

  • Elective and urgent surgical care environments

  • May include trauma or emergency department consult coverage

Qualifications
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school

  • Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency

  • Fellowship training in Hand Surgery (orthopedic or plastic surgery based)

  • Board certified or board eligible in Orthopedic Surgery

  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing state

  • DEA registration or eligibility
