Temporary Extra Help Positions

The Elections Division of the County Clerk-Recorder's Office is gearing up for the June 2, 2026, Primary Election and is seeking to fill 500 temporary Extra Help positions to support elections that service every voter in Ventura County across all 10 cities.
Whether you're assisting voters at a Vote Center or keeping elections running smoothly behind the scenes in a warehouse environment, you'll play a direct role in ensuring fair, accurate, and secure elections. These short-term assignments offer meaningful public service experience, flexible durations, and the opportunity to work as part of a fast paced, mission driven team.
Extra help employees are hired to perform temporary work and are paid on an hourly basis. They work on call, which means that their work hours may vary from day to day, and they may need to work various shifts, on evenings and weekends. Hours are driven by the Elections Division workload and may be less than 8 hours/day.
Extra help employees are not regular county employees and are not eligible for county benefits. Additionally, extra help employees are limited to working a maximum of 720 hours per fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.
There are currently two (2) assignments available:
Vote Center Assignment
Perform a variety of ballot processing, customer service and data entry functions in support of the election. Depending upon job assignment, terms of employment may range from several days to several weeks.
Warehouse Assignment
Perform the manual and clerical work required for the operation of a warehouse including receiving, transporting, stocking, issuing, shipping, inventorying, assembling, packaging, and record keeping. Performs complex and varied inventory management duties in support of multiple functional areas of a central warehouse unit. Ideal candidates must be willing and able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment; be flexible and available for overtime, evening and weekend work; perform routine and repetitive tasks while standing for long periods of time; lift 40 to 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the day; be adaptable and maintain attention to detail, time sensitive setting in close working conditions; and, communicate and interact effectively with supervisors, peers and other departments.

This classification is used to fill temporary assignments during local, state, and federal elections.
PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE SALARIES:
Elections Worker I: $22.50 Hourly
Elections Worker II: $25.50 Hourly

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current temporary/intermittent positions as well as future Extra Help vacancies. There are currently 500 vacancies in the Elections Division, depending on operational needs.
