About This Role
Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education-oriented provisioning centers.
The Post Harvest Labor and Productivity Managers are servant leaders and subject matter experts responsible for leading Teams in our daily work and keeping up with our strategic initiatives. They are a key part of Operations Leadership and as such are highly proficient in Lean Management Fundamentals, Crop Management best practices, and GMP/GAP Compliance. This is a high paced role requiring daily dynamic prioritization of team objectives by the individual who is right for the job. Responsibilities
Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Manage on time Post Harvest labor activities: METRC, hand trimming, pre-rolling packaging and machine operating.
Motivate the Team and coach Citizens on proper Standard Work and execution of tasks per the Production Schedule.
Responsible foroverall throughput of Trim and Packaging departments.
Intaking and organizing untrimmed biomass from harvest team.
Ensure all cannabis products arefree from contaminationrisk at all stages, from Intake to fulfillment.
Motivate the Team and coach Citizens on proper Standard Work and execution of tasks per the Production Schedule.
Ensuring work tasks within their assigned Value Stream are executed per the Production Schedule and Standard Work with high degree of Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance.
Accountable for Safety, Quality and Productivity Improvements year over year.
Collaboratively leading or creating and constantly Improving our standard work procedures towards the highest quality plant output.
Preparing and managing the team in tracking all activities and work performed in MERTC: including package creation and tracking, waste tracking, harvest Intake, and harvest batch tracking.
Helping the team grow and develop our Citizens through Lean Policy Promotion and required Lean skills with hands-on career discussions and planning.
Act as subject matter expert with respect to cannabis quality, citizen development, and mechanics of automated production systems.
Collaborate with multiple value streams and vendors to trouble shoot problems and ensure all systems are functioning properly.
Utilize software systems and systems of visual management to ensure Predictive Maintenance is applied to control systems.
Author Control Standard Documents and Standard Work to ensure critical quality parameters (such as seasonal settings change) are documented and managed properly.
Audit Tier 1 huddles and our system of Visual Controls.
Ensure that work tasks are executed per the Standard Work with high degree of Safety, Quality and Regulatory Compliance using regular training and auditing.
Timely and accurate data collection and reporting to ensure crop strategies and improvement projects are on track and not being steered by inaccurate data.
Timely and accurate data entry to ensure that our Schedule Attainment tools are kept up to date and current.
Address personnel issues in a timely manner and if needed, escalate to additional leadership and HR.
Exemplifying the 5Cs (Caring, Creativity, Collaboration, Curiosity, Courage) in every interaction with fellow citizens.
Always maintain a professional and respectful work environment and team culture.
Maintain A 5S system and display a high standard of cleanliness and organization.
Participate in Kaizen and other improvement events.
Ultimately: Ensuring production goals set by cultivation leadership are met by leveraging Lean Management Fundamentals, addressing personnel issues in a timely manner, giving immediate and specific feedback, maintaining respect and culture of the team, and developing yourself and your team by living the 5Cs.
Additional Skills/Tasks:
Reporting and documenting all maintenance concerns.
Identify and lead mitigation of Product and Process Defects in the production rooms considering a wide variety of defects such as plant disease, pest damage, poor product quality, etc.
Accountable for establishing and managing Quality Control checks (Leader Standard Work) to ensure process and product quality.
Communicate with clarity and consistency to maintain a positive and progressive team atmosphere.
Provide timely and professional feedback to Leadership on Quality concerns.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate using electronic media such as Slack and Outlook Email.
Perform other duties as required, assisting the Cultivation Captains when necessary.
The Experience You Bring and the Skills we Need:
3 years of Leadership experience working with a team of individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
Four Year College Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred. Five Years management experience in agricultural, pharmaceutical, or feed industry may be considered in lieu of degree.
Excellent communication and documentation skills using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Advanced Excel knowledge utilizing advanced formulas, conditional formatting, and multiple spreadsheet calculations.
Automated packaging experience required with cannabis automation experience preferred.
Must be a self-starter who drives the team to achieve production targets within set timelines.
Experience with cannabis track-and-trace software such as Leaf Logix, MJ Freeway, or METRC is a plus.
Efficient production work leadership with application of Lean Tools and Problem-Solving skills to root-cause correct daily cultivation/production issues.
Knowledge of post-harvest diseases, mildew, mold, as well as remediation processes and options.
Capacity to advance to a Director level role within 2-3 years.
This is a dynamic team, and as such daily tasks may vary, resulting in a fast-paced and lively work environment.
Proficiency in Lean Management fundamentals including how to:
Identify the 8 wastes
Correctly capture cycle times
Create a process map
Create a Loading Diagram/ Balance Chart
Create Leader Standard Work, how to create Standard Work Documents
Maintain a 5S system with a score of 3.0 or better
Set up visual management tools such as k-cards and tier 1 boards with frequency diagrams and action plans
Use a standard work combination sheet
Implement defect controls using quality alerts
Lead an A3 project, C.I. Team, or Kaizen project.
Mastery of Crop Steering strategies quantified by an ability to teach and mentor.
Efficient cultivation/production work ethic with application of Lean tools.
Knowledge in areas listed dependent on where you will work: Plant diseases, insects and fungi, fertigation, plant treatment processes, cannabis finished goods product manufacturing, and production management.
Must be proactive problem solver, able to influence others in a professional and courteous manner, encourage Lean Thinking and Continuous Improvement
Leadership skills such as emotional intelligence, problem solving, clear communication, spatial organization, attention to detail, documentation, and honest work ethic.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Comfortable working in a greenhouse environment (tolerance of heat & humidity).
