Public Works Engineering Superintendent

Position Overview
Senior Public Works Engineering Superintendent responsible for planning, directing, and managing street, storm drainage, and utility infrastructure across 273 miles of roadway, ensuring compliance with regulations and the Town’s PRIDE philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Streets and Storm Drainage Division, supervising staff and overseeing daily operations and capital projects such as pavement management, roadway rehabilitation, and infrastructure upgrades.

Develop and monitor the division budget, prepare cost estimates, and manage procurement and contract administration.

Plan and coordinate street maintenance and storm drainage projects, ensuring schedules meet service level agreements and regulatory requirements.

Oversee right-of-way permitting, traffic control, and compliance with MUTCD and Town standards.

Provide technical guidance on design, construction, and maintenance of public works infrastructure.

Manage emergency response activities, including snow removal and flood mitigation, and coordinate with regional partners and community agencies.

Conduct staff coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development to build a high‑performing team.

Prepare and deliver presentations to executive leadership, the Town Board, and community stakeholders on projects and performance.

Maintain accurate reports, maps, and data analysis for operational monitoring and decision making.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation/Traffic Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible engineering or public works experience, with at least three (3) years in supervisory or management roles.

Valid Colorado Professional Engineering License (required) and Colorado Driver’s License.

Preferred certifications: APWA Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII), APWA Rocky Mountain Public Works, Colorado LTAP Supervisory Skills & Development Program, FEMA 100/200/700/800, CPR/First Aid within 3 months.

Strong knowledge of public works operations, budgeting, project management, and regulatory compliance.

Proficient in CAD, GIS, and related software (AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Cartegraph, etc.).

Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.

Equipment & Materials
The role utilizes computers, tablets, software systems, and field equipment, and requires the operation of staff vehicles and pickup trucks for site inspections.

Physical Requirements
Light work: lifting up to 20 lb occasionally, or 10 lb frequently; tasks include climbing, stooping, reaching, and operating equipment. Environmental conditions include extreme temperatures and outdoor exposure.
