
Intern - Thermal Design and Simulation

The Saxonburg IR Engineering team is seeking an intern with interest in thermal engineering, heat transfer modeling, and numerical simulation to support the design and optimization of liquid cold plates for AI datacenter chips. The intern will gain hands‑on experience creating and refining thermal models, running simulations, analyzing results, and collaborating with other engineers to validate predictions. This role offers real‑world engineering experience in an emerging industry.
This position will collaborate heavily with a multidisciplinary team comprised of engineers and production technicians.
Responsibilities
Become familiar with thermal management technologies, simulation tools, and modeling approaches.
Work with engineering team to identify and compensate for differences between experiment and model.
Analyze simulation outputs, present findings, and make recommendations to engineering team.
Requirements
Mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, or materials science majors will be best suited for this role.
Experience with thermal simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, Creo Simulate, or similar).
Data analysis and programming experience (MATLAB, Python).
Strong data analysis and organization skills.
Practical experience in thermal modeling, simulation, and design optimization in an emerging industry.
Collaboration with skilled engineering teams working at the intersection of simulation and test.

Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
