Job Summary
The Sterile Supplies Specialist is responsible for the sterilization and processing of supplies and instruments for distribution. Responsibilities include inspecting, sorting, disassembly/reassembly, manual and mechanical cleaning, biological processes, equipment operation, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distribution of sterile supplies. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed by observation of results obtained. The role also requires participation in ADEX (CRDTS) exams, mock boards, and other special board certification exercises throughout the year, including weekend work approximately 4‑6 times per year.
Responsibilities
Maintain daily inventory control of all instruments: generate inventory sheets for faculty, residents, and students; identify needs for repair and preventive maintenance; assist with periodic inventory of supplies and instruments.
Dispense and collect instruments to and from dispensaries and clinics, ensuring proper instructions are supplied within each cassette, identifying repair needs, providing preventive maintenance, and distributing appropriate instruments accurately and efficiently.
Operating sterilizers and conducting procedures for testing (Bowie Dick, Biological monitoring) to ensure the highest quality of infection control.
Operate computer systems and scanners for inventory control, create labels, maintain forms, and generate barcode labels.
Maintain all rooms associated with central sterilization, conduct scheduled cleaning of wall floors, counters, equipment, and daily cleaning of assigned work area.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned and follow published guidelines regarding personal protective gear, clinical infection control protocols, and incident reporting in case of medical emergencies.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accredited organization with knowledge of sterilization processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a Dental Assistant Program and/or a Sterile Process Technician Program; or an associate degree from an accredited college or university with two years of sterilization experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office, other computer software and databases; knowledge of dental instruments and equipment.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Abilities: Maintain confidentiality; learn sterilization principles, procedures, equipment and patient management software; good manual dexterity; distinguish colors; lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; effectively interact with dental assistants, students, faculty and staff; prioritize tasks, complete work, and meet deadlines.
Shift / Salary / Benefits
Shift: Monday‑Friday (occasional weekends 4‑6 times per year), 11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. (with shift differential). Pay band: B2. Salary: Minimum $15.77 per hour, commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment period: until filled.
Benefits may include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teacher’s Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees employed for more than six months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
