A day in the life
As the Quality Inspection & Metrology Manager, you own the full spectrum of Quality Control activities—inspection and metrology—serving as the subject matter expert for all inspection (non‑NDT) and measurement practices. You orchestrate people, process, and technology so product conformity is proven early, issues are contained fast, and records flow cleanly to Quality Assurance.

Key Responsibilities

Start by confirming calibration coverage is current and aligned to industry standards so production and inspection can proceed without interruption.

Review in-process inspection data to verify conformity as early in the build as possible and redeploy resources to maximize inspection effectiveness.

Assess nonconformance reports to ensure they are documented accurately and on time, with affected product contained and traced.

Check that final production records are complete and accurate, ready for Quality Assurance processing.

Prepare for or support regulatory audits and ensure inspection procedures and evidence align to applicable standards.

Walk the floor to monitor adherence to manufacturing and inspection processes—coaching and correcting where needed.

Meet with your team to align training plans, close skill gaps, and sustain high morale and engagement.

How You'll Measure Success

Inspection processes catch issues early and verify product conformity at the earliest practical stage.

Inspection resources and technologies are deployed for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

Nonconformances are accurately recorded in a timely manner, and affected product is contained.

Appropriate inspection technologies are available and in use to streamline inspections.

Calibration activities meet industry standards and are executed on schedule to support operations.

Final production records are complete, accurate, and primed for Quality Assurance.

Regulatory audits are supported per applicable regulatory bodies and standards.

Adherence to manufacturing and inspection processes is continuously monitored and corrected when necessary.

What You'll Lead

Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of planning‑stage inspection methods and eliminate redundancy or non‑value‑added work.

Serve as the metrology advisor to Quality Assurance.

Establish controls and KPIs to track departmental performance and direct‑report goals.

Contribute to departmental strategy and vision.

Lead the QC organization and cultivate high morale and engagement among QC personnel.

Own the Quality Control training program to ensure training is targeted, effective, and operation‑appropriate.

Document each inspector’s capabilities, track progress, and set training goals to close skill gaps.

Continuously expand knowledge of inspection philosophies and technologies to keep GTC capabilities aligned with the industries we serve.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field, or equivalent industry experience.

10+ years in quality‑related disciplines, preferably in manufacturing.

Supervisory experience leading a technical function; defense‑based manufacturing experience preferred.

Proven record completing quality improvement initiatives and projects.
