Work location: This position requires on‑site presence in Tucson, AZ, and requires reporting to the office every business day.
Job Summary Design and develop emergency lighting products/circuitry, emergency lighting, low frequency inverters, and other new products relating to lighting electronics, including controls and interface circuitry. Assist in implementation and distribution of new products to manufacturing, guide and direct design of PCBs, enclosures, packaging and related equipment. Apply power electronics, switch‑mode power supply circuit design, and electronics for lighting (design of voltage, current and power regulators, analog & digital controls). Perform feasibility studies for new technologies, components, and product ideas from conception to initial production. Apply battery technology including Ni‑Cad and lithium‑based batteries such as LiFePO4. Conduct all work with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.
Key Responsibilities Design and develop new emergency lighting products and related electronics that meet specified quality, reliability, performance and cost targets.
Design and develop battery charger & battery management circuits, including smart chargers for Ni‑Cad and lithium‑based batteries.
Coordinate and hold design reviews, providing deliverables such as Bill‑of‑Materials, block diagrams, schematics, drawings, PCB documentation, specifications, test data results and other necessary information.
Supervise or coordinate the work of other engineers to introduce new products to manufacturing, assist PCB & mechanical design, and support technicians.
Prepare and coordinate completed working prototype samples from manufacturing, including samples for the UL Client Test Data program and production.
Guide and assist product engineers with manufacturing documentation for PCB layout, mechanical design, equipment restrictions and necessary documentation for new or major redesigned products.
Develop and execute reliability studies, including on‑site or off‑site installations and reliability tests and analysis for new or major redesigned products.
Participate in ALT, HALT, PTC testing, and other reliability/quality test programs.
Write and provide special manufacturing guidelines and test specifications for new products, materials or processes.
Determine proper materials for each product and participate in test programs for new materials.
Specify and monitor tests for product compliance with applicable standards required by qualifying agencies (e.g., UL, FCC).
Evaluate product or material performance to support Quality, Manufacturing and Field Service functions.
Issue complete and concise reports regarding performance of new or improved products and competing products.
Participate in the initial production phase of manufacturing inquiries and problems.
Minimum Requirements Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering.
All levels of experience will be considered (new graduates, early‑career, industry experience, etc.).
Experienced in power electronics design & development; ability to research, learn and apply new technologies toward product design.
Skillful at hands‑on bench‑top design of power electronics products.
Strong electronics lab skills and use of test equipment.
Strong electrical engineering and schematic/PCB design skills, especially with Altium Designer.
Ability to work with a team in a matrix organization and contribute to cross‑functional teams.
Proficient with personal computing (spreadsheets, word processing, drawing packages).
Analytical and problem‑solving skills with good organizational and communication skills.
Project management ability to balance innovation and creativity with a strong sense of urgency.
Knowledge of UL standards and compliance standards such as FCC, EMI, and CEC.
Applied experience in project, timeline and budget management.
Preferred Requirements Master of Electrical Engineering.
Experience in electronics for lighting or related fields.
Knowledge of embedded microcontroller products.
Travel Requirements Up to 10% travel is expected within the United States and Mexico.
