The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. Although the full salary range is posted, the target salary range for this position is $30-$33. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

In this position you will report to the Denver Wastewater Building (2000 W. 3rd) each morning, and then work at various locations across the City. Typical working hours are 6:30-3:00pm.

Wastewater Management oversees all aspects of wastewater functions, including the construction, operation, maintenance of the City's sanitary and storm systems, and responding to customer inquiries regarding sewage and storm drainage service charges.
As an Equipment Operator IV you will:
Please note this is not a truck driving position, you will be operating heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, and power shovels. The majority of time will be spent operating an excavator and backhoe with an arm
Operate large, complex specialized industrial equipment while controlling both the speed and direction of the vehicle and operations of the working attachments and adjusts level and angle of attachments in accordance with the nature of the work while regularly performing skilled work in construction, earthmoving, and/or other work-related duties.
Identifiy equipment needs for each assigned project and ensures the safe and efficient operation of equipment and a variety of work-related tools.
Inspect vehicle for loose parts, damaged or worn tires, proper air pressure in tires, and other items affecting its safe operation and completes a pre/post trip inspection as defined by federal guidelines.
Observe on-board instruments while operating equipment and takes routine corrective action if malfunctions are indicated.
Perform manual labor in construction, maintenance, and/or other work-related duties when not driving equipment to or operating it at the work site.
Assist in preventative maintenance of equipment by washing and servicing vehicles with water, oil, and fuel, performs basic maintenance, and makes minor running repairs.
Keep trip records and logs, report defects in the vehicle's operations, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle.
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provides information within the area of assignment.
Participate in snow removal duties.
Provide training to Utility Workers and Equipment Operators
May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs.
At the time of application, candidates are required to hold a valid CDL clear of any restrictions or under prohibited status in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse.
This position requires a background check, physical, and drug test.
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Experience operating heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, power shovels, and other earthmoving equipment.
A construction background operating equipment and hand tools
Leadership skills
Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English:
Converse with the general public
Understand highway traffic signs and signals
Respond to official inquiries
Make entries on reports and records
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience operating medium sized, specialized equipment which must include one (1) year of experience operating large complex specialized industrial equipment.
Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application. Requires a valid Commerical Driver's License (CDL "A") within six months of hire. Requires a CDL Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
