The Cardiology Physician Assistant (PA) provides advanced clinical care to patients with cardiovascular conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary care team, the PA evaluates patients, develops treatment plans, manages chronic and acute cardiac conditions, and supports continuity of cardiovascular care.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including history and physical examinations
Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions
Conduct daily inpatient rounds or outpatient clinic visits, as applicable
Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests including ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and laboratory studies
Develop and implement treatment plans under physician supervision
Manage cardiac medications and provide guideline-directed medical therapy
Assist with or perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., cardioversions, stress testing, device checks)
Monitor patient response to treatment and adjust care plans accordingly
Provide patient and family education on cardiac conditions, medications, lifestyle modification, and follow-up care
Coordinate care with nursing, pharmacy, cardiac rehabilitation, and consulting services
Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and cardiovascular care initiatives
General cardiology
Heart failure management
Electrophysiology support
Interventional cardiology follow-up
Preventive and outpatient cardiology
Day shift with variable hours
May include weekends or limited call depending on service needs
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Current national certification as a Physician Assistant
Active or eligible state licensure
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
Prior cardiology, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or critical care experience preferred
Strong cardiovascular assessment and clinical decision-making skills
Familiarity with cardiac diagnostics and guideline-directed therapy
Ability to function effectively in fast-paced inpatient or clinic environments
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care
Hospital inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and procedural areas
Requires standing, walking, and extended patient interaction
Exposure to high-acuity cardiac patients depending on role
