Jackson County Roads Department is looking to hire 15 Extra Help Road Maintenance Workers to join our positive, highly motivated, and dedicated Road Maintenance Division. These positions are six-month seasonal positions.
Do you enjoy working outdoors and somewhere new almost every day? We are looking for new team members who have a real desire to make a difference. We work throughout Southern Oregon and its surrounding areas, with large projects scheduled for this summer. We do most of our training in-house, with certified flagger training on the first day. Although these are seasonal positions, they do give you the opportunity to show us your interest, abilities, and allow you to become more familiar with the work we do and the equipment we use.
Southern Oregon is one of the most beautiful areas of the Pacific Northwest and we are located in Jackson County, Oregon. With moderate weather and temperatures, we have breathtaking mountains in a region featuring world-class outdoor recreation opportunities, including Crater Lake National Park and the Oregon Coast. We are a diverse county consisting of 11 incorporated cities and numerous unincorporated communities, covering many miles of land, forests, rivers and lakes.
Monday Thursday, 6:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Hours/days may change as the season progresses.
$20.16 per hour (depending on experience).

Pre-Employment Requirements and/or Preferences

$20.16/hr (depending on experience)
Must pass a criminal background check prior to hire.
Submit an acceptable DMV certified court print prior to hire.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen, which includes screening for Marijuana.
Job Duties and Requirements

Under supervision to perform general unskilled or limited manual tasks and to perform related work as required.
The following duties represent the principle job duties, however, they are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs heavy manual labor digging ditches, cleaning and installing culverts or drain tiles, cutting and chipping brush, spraying brush, removing obstacles from roadways and adjacent area, and hand loading and unloading of all types of materials. Installs and repairs guardrails, sign posts, and etc.
Directs truck drivers to proper location for dumping rock or other material and flags traffic around hazards or crews in roadways.
Performs simple tasks in repairing road surfaces, such as removing loose material, hand spreading of sand and asphalt, bridge work, or other work as directed.
Must be 18 years old. Position requires good physical condition with strength and stamina to do heavy manual labor for extended periods in all kinds of weather; ability to understand and follow oral and written direction; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's license and a good driving record. Possession of a valid Flagger's Certification Card and a valid Defensive Driving/Safe Driving card of certificate of completion, or ability to obtain both certifications within 30 days of appointment.
