Position Overview
The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia invites applications for a teaching‑track faculty position in Communication, beginning August 2026. The appointment may be at the Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.
This full‑time role requires teaching five courses per year, writing case studies and curriculum materials for internal and external use, and actively serving the Communication area and the Darden School. Initial appointments are normally for a three‑year term and may be renewed upon review.
Responsibilities
Teach two sections of Leadership Communication, a core course offered in all Darden graduate formats (Residential MBA, Executive MBA, Part‑time MBA, and MS in Business Analytics).
Deliver an excellent core course that is consistent across sections and collaborate with the faculty team.
Provide teaching in elective courses aligned with typical MBA career paths (consulting, finance, marketing, technology, general management, entrepreneurship), scheduled according to faculty expertise, student interest, and staffing needs.
Write case studies and other curriculum materials for internal and external programs, contributing to Darden’s case‑method pedagogy.
Engage with business practitioners through the Communication area’s Leadership Communication Council, Executive Education & Lifelong Learning programs, or independent consulting.
Maintain active professional ties through conferences and networks, and be eligible for discretionary funds and up to two months of summer research/course‑development funding.
Participate in global immersion courses and blended delivery formats as required.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Communication or a related discipline is preferred; a master’s degree with strong practitioner experience and evidence of teaching excellence will also be considered.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching core Communication courses and electives, with a commitment to lifelong learning and the integration of emerging technologies.
Experience in case‑method teaching and curriculum development is desirable.
Ability to produce video or Coursera‑style courses is beneficial.
