Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and a background investigation. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment.

Under direction, the class functions as a uniformed technical specialist performing a variety of high-level logistics support functions within the Chicago Fire Department and performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties

Supervises the daily functions of the ready room and supply and logistics warehouse.

Helps to supervise the other areas of the Logistics Division.

Coordinates the department's fire suppression and rescue operations supply system that includes the procurement, storage, inventory, and distribution of all Fire and EMS equipment and supplies (e.g., ambulance medication, radios, hoses, ladders, pumps, extrication tools).

Manages the deployment and tracking of supplies, equipment, and services to support large-scale fire and emergency services.

Coordinates the maintenance and repair of fire apparatus and vehicles with the City's Fleet Management department.

Coordinates repairs at all firehouses.

Handles contaminated materials and hazardous equipment in a safe manner and handles medical supplies and equipment.

Coordinates the maintenance, repair, and availability of all safety equipment.

Assists in the development of logistics related contracts and agreements.

Maintains minimum number of items to ensure replacements are on hand.

Assures availability and reliability of logistics functions during times of natural disasters or large-scale emergencies.

Will be assigned to confiscation duties on a rotating basis.

Must be able to switch between the various divisions of Logistics and understand their functions and operations.

Must have excellent communications skills and be prepared to regularly attend meetings of various subjects.

Will be supervising members of the CFD.

Will be regularly communicating with other city entities and private vendors.

Must have a willingness to learn new skills and keep current of new developments and regulations in the fire service and EMS community.

NOTE: Possible after-hours work required and a response duty that is 24 hours a day 7 days per week on a duty cycle.

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE.

Minimum Qualifications

Career Service status as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department is required.

Twelve (12) years as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department plus at least three (3) years of work experience in logistics, inventory or supply chain is required.

A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.

An Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Service Vehicle Operator (FSVO) certification is required.

NOTE: You must provide your Driver's License and FSVO certification at time of processing.

Selection Requirements
This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

A valid State of Illinois non-CDL Class B driver's license.

A minimum career service rank of a Fire Engineer (including EMT-B or EMT-P).

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license.

Ability to complete interstate travel.

On call availability at the direction of the Deputy Fire Commissioner of Logistics.

Proficiency in operation of all emergency vehicles.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office programs PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and Excel.
