Grant-Mill Healthcare Solutions is seeking an Interior Design Assistant to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System (LBVAHCS) Engineering Service. You'll work within the Interior Design Section assisting the Senior & Junior Interior Designer and VA Interior Designer team with major project activations, moves, space planning, FF&E procurement, and installation oversight across clinical and administrative spaces.
What You’ll Do Assist the contracted Interior Designer and VA Interior Designer to create and execute design services for offices, conference rooms, patient care rooms, treatment rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, break rooms, cafés, and support spaces.
Prepare detailed AutoCAD designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes, and visual aids for design presentations.
Analyze architectural drawings and develop AutoCAD FF&E plan layers for building codes, equipment, materials, and traffic patterns.
Interpret and review architectural plans for concurrence with VA TIL standards and specifications.
Produce procurement packages following VA contracting standards: SOWs, specifications, IGCEs, bid sheets, and budgets.
Assist with financial management related to FF&E procurement — vendor communication, delivery and installation coordination.
Maintain the Interior Design Resource Library including drawings, plans, procurement documents, and project binders.
Review way-finding signage plans, furniture and artwork installation plans; direct installation crews without supervision.
Identify and create punch lists for installed items; coordinate with dealers, installers, and stakeholders to close out.
Responsible for meeting notes and design collateral from collaborative stakeholder meetings.
Support transition planning including day-in-life scenarios, move plans, departmental adjacency, and patient/staff flow.
Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field, OR 8–10 years of relevant interior design or design-support experience, a combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the stated requirements.
Additionally, all candidates must have:
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite — Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications.
Skilled in freehand drawing and drawing to scale during on-site measurements.
Familiarity with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare environments.
Working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA.
Expertise in selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings.
Ability to pass a federal background investigation (NACI level) and drug screening.
Negative TB screening within 90 days of assignment; annual flu vaccination or approved exemption.
Preferred Qualifications NCIDQ — National Council for Interior Design Qualification.
EDAC — Evidence-Based Design Accreditation.
LEED AP — Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Experience with Revit and Microsoft Project.
Prior VA Medical Center or DoD healthcare environment experience.
Portfolio demonstrating healthcare interior design support work.
