JOB SUMMARY
The Web & IT Support Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining the City’s websites, while providing general IT support to staff and assisting with technology operations. This position emphasizes
WordPress website development and administration
as a primary function, with additional responsibilities supporting desktop systems and assisting with server environments.
This role is ideal for a candidate with strong web skills and a willingness to learn and grow in systems and infrastructure technologies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Web Development & Management (Primary Role)
Administer, maintain, and develop City websites using
WordPress
Design, update, and improve website layout, usability, and accessibility
Manage themes, plugins, updates, and site security
Optimize website performance and troubleshoot issues
Coordinate with departments to publish and maintain content
Ensure websites meet accessibility and public communication standards
Systems & Server Support (Learning / Assisted Role)
Assist with maintenance of
Linux (Ubuntu) servers
hosting web applications
Support
Apache web services and PHP environments
under guidance
Perform basic monitoring and report issues to senior IT staff
Participate in system updates, patching, and documentation
Develop skills in server administration over time
Desktop Support & End-User Services
Provide technical support for
Windows 11 workstations
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues
Assist with workstation setup and deployments
Provide basic user training and assistance
IT Operations & Support
Assist IT team with installations and projects
Maintain documentation for websites and systems
Follow cybersecurity best practices
Learn new technologies as needed to support City operations
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED;
Associate’s degree in IT, Web Development, or related field OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience
2–4 years of experience in:
WordPress development/design (required)
IT support or helpdesk (preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
Basic experience with Linux (Ubuntu) and Apache
Familiarity with PHP, HTML, CSS, or MySQL
Experience with accessibility standards (ADA compliance)
Experience in a municipal or public sector environment
Licenses or Certifications:
Must maintain a valid State driver’s license.
Special Requirements
Strong proficiency in
WordPress administration and website design
Experience with themes, plugins, and content management
Basic understanding of:
Web hosting environments
Linux systems (or willingness to learn)
Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 support skills
Occasional after-hours support
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong web design and user experience awareness
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively
Good communication with non-technical staff
Ability to learn new systems and technologies
Strong organizational and time management skills
Knowledge of PC’s and the ability to install, maintain, and diagnose Microsoft operating systems and application suites.
Skill in uses computers, notebooks, PDAS, cell phones, printers, test equipment, soldering irons, copy machine, fax machine, cable crimpers, power tools, ladders and the use of regular hand tools.
Ability to treat all matters within the City of Page for all departments with extreme confidentiality.
Ability to diagnose, test, maintain, and repair computer desktops, notebooks, peripherals, servers, cabling, and networks.
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with employees, vendors, city agents and citizens.
Ability to use tools and test equipment.
Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements.
Ability to troubleshoot computer problems quickly and efficiently to assure minimal down time.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to explain technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
