Job Title: Interior Design Planner

Department: Health System Shared Services | Space Planning

Scope of Position
The Interior Design Planner position includes interior space planning & programming, suggesting, documenting space modifications, participating in construction project teams, understanding architectural drawings, navigating design reviews and submittals. This position incorporates managing relocations and move operations. Effective procurement strategies are created and implemented by the Planners. They create and apply standards for furniture and interior space. Solutions are produced in response to customers’ furniture, move, and renovation requests. The Interior Design Planner coordinates furniture estimates and obtains vendor input. The Planner must be proficient in communication and leadership skills, customer service, coordination of multiple projects, work in CAD technology, project management software (Trimble Unity Construct) and understand regulatory and ADA compliances.

Position Summary
The Interior Design Planner participates in all aspects of OSUWMC interior facility planning, including design implementation, site visits, move coordination, and furniture installation. Activities involve programming, budgeting, conceptual design and furniture layouts, procurement, project management, vendor coordination, all move activities, furniture repair and warranty. The degree of involvement in any specific project varies within larger project teams of Senior Planners, Project Managers, Construction Managers, and others.

The Planner is responsible for developing project scopes related to interior finishes and space, integration of interior furniture, collaborating with vendors, project managers and moving companies. They monitor budgets and timelines, review design documents, specifications, regulatory requirements, procurement timelines, and project schedules. They provide relocation coordination and understand disposal and move request items, prioritizing alternates and documenting activities.

Responsibilities
Planning, Design, Project Delivery

The Planner partners with customers during budgeting and concept development. They conduct needs assessments, site visits, measuring, and help clients prioritize modifications within budget limits. This includes planning for new construction, renovations and upgrades to existing spaces. The Planner facilitates effective communication with customers, explaining design processes, timelines, and best practices. They work with architects, engineers, vendors, dealers, signage, art & environmental graphic teams, and branding professionals. They monitor compliance, support facility planning, and coordinate policy and process improvements. The Planner leads warranty reviews, evaluates standards, monitors vendor performance, and documents project decisions.

Leadership & Vision

The Planner focuses on outcomes beyond tasks, ensures facilities meet regulatory standards, creates safe and aesthetically pleasing environments, incorporates industry research, obtains user feedback, and maintains budget sensitivity. Strong communication, conflict resolution, and professionalism are required.

Other Department Functions

The Planner maintains networks, participates in departmental meetings, champions special tasks, and represents the University and Medical Center with professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Space Planning, Interior Design, Architecture, Construction Design, or similar field or equivalent education and experience.

2 years of relevant experience required; 2-4 years preferred.

Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit), Microsoft Office, Adobe, Autodesk Visualization tools, and Creative Suite.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with PowerPoint, Photoshop, BlueBeam and Microsoft Project desired.

Knowledge of regulatory codes for clinical, office, research environments desirable.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, sensitivity to facility operation costs, and overall creativity.

Experience in a multidisciplinary academic medical center or complex organization desirable; 24/7 clinical experience desirable.

Professional certification/registration preferred.

Ongoing Requirements

Meet mandatory education and health surveillance requirements; demonstrate competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills; knowledge of NFPA, NEC, Life Safety Code, OBBC, JCAHO and other regulatory requirements; commitment to ongoing education.
