Section Manager - High Speed Digital Design Analysis

Leidos Defense is seeking a talented Section Manager - High Speed Digital Design and Analysis to join our Electrical Systems Department. The selected manager will supervise a team of Electrical Design Engineers and contribute to programs for internal and external customers, supporting aerospace and military systems such as ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide technical oversight and mentorship to develop team members.

Develop strong working relationships with team members to meet productivity and retention goals.

Conduct regular staff meetings and one‑on‑ones with team members.

Scale the team by identifying hiring needs, writing job postings, coordinating screening of applicants, interviewing on‑site, and making hiring recommendations.

Architect, design, develop and test complex PCB designs utilizing embedded microprocessors, microcontrollers, FPGAs or SoCs to meet system requirements.

Propose and implement ideas to improve organizational quality, agility, and capability.

Support organizational business development goals and initiatives by providing technical input to proposals.

Perform necessary reporting, approvals, and other administrative tasks.

Provide technical input to program leadership during the planning and execution of engineering projects.

Perform hardware system development from developing/deriving requirements to employing appropriate techniques for design, fabrication, integration, and test.

Work split between management tasks and technical tasks is expected to be ~25% management, 75% technical.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related technical field and 8+ years of prior relevant experience.

2+ years of demonstrated experience leading small to mid‑size technical teams.

5+ years of experience in high‑speed digital PCB design and troubleshooting including embedded processor, microcontroller, or FPGA‑based designs.

Experience with high‑speed design analysis tools such as HyperLynx.

Experience with multiple high‑speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g., GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, JESD204B, PCIe, SATA).

Experience with technical problem solving and root cause analysis.

Ability to decompose system‑level considerations (i.e., requirements) to lower design levels.

Ability to perform in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi‑disciplinary teams.

Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.

Proven understanding of fundamental circuits and circuit components.

Hands‑on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods.

Highly motivated self‑starter with the ability to work independently.

Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.

Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville – North Alabama, AL area.

U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent from an ABET‑accredited university.

Experience and/or working knowledge of:

Personnel management including hiring, employee development, and staffing coordination.

Evaluating and implementing process improvement initiatives.

Project management including cost and schedule oversight.

Business development activities including developing briefings, white papers, and proposals.

Electrical design for military hardware or aerospace systems.
