Responsibilities

Operational Management:

Direct operations of the CVM, including the Veterinary Medical Center and Diagnostic Laboratories, working closely with directors and staff to manage facilities, staff, programs, budgets, and capital projects. Ensure operations support teaching mission and meet accreditation standards. Coordinate with senior leadership, chairs, and directors for resource allocation, policy development, and quality assurance.

Budget Management:

Work with the CVM Budget Director and Dean to develop annual FY budgets; monitor expenditures and revenues; oversee general operating budget; recommend resource allocation to the Dean.

Strategic Planning & Implementation:

Collaborate with the Dean and senior leadership team to implement the strategic vision, report implementation status and outcomes to the executive committee.

Faculty Affairs:

Assist the Dean and department heads with faculty recruitment, evaluation, accountability, and teamwork; manage service workloads, scheduling, and professional development initiatives; advise on faculty service matters during promotion and tenure processes.

External Relations:

Represent the Dean at conferences, external meetings, advancement team, and community events when the Dean is absent.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

Collate and analyze data for decision‑making; provide regular reports to the Dean on key performance indicators; ensure timely accreditation documents; maintain compliance with accrediting bodies.

Communications:

Coordinate with the Dean, Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications, Client Services, Referral Services, and Advancement Team on internal and external communications.

Perform other projects and related functions as needed or assigned.

Key Skills

Proven ability to lead and manage teams, make informed decisions, and build consensus among faculty and staff.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge of budget management principles and ability to analyze financial data for strategic decisions.

Proactive identification and escalation of impactful information to the Dean, along with resolution options.

Skilled at managing the flow of issues, projects, and obstacles under supervision.

Demonstrated independent analysis and judgment in prioritizing situations requiring attention, ensuring timely progress of strategic and operational priorities.

Strong organizational and interpersonal savvy with emotional intelligence to represent the Dean’s position accurately to internal and external constituencies.

Evidence of ability to maintain high academic and professional standards across all programs.

Ability to establish and implement short and long‑range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitor and evaluate effectiveness; implement improvements.

Qualifications

Masters or Doctorate in Hospital Administration, MBA, or similar training and experience is required; DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree is preferred.

Certified Veterinary Practice Manager or similar demonstration of expertise in financial management in complex operations.

10+ years experience in academic veterinary medical center management or related field.

Administrative experience as department chair, associate dean, military officer administration, or other managerial position within veterinary field.

Outstanding organizational and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

Working knowledge of the AVMA Committee on Accreditation process.
