
Shipping Specialist

Position Summary
Shipping Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the finished product is ready for shipment, creating shipping packets, verifies that load paperwork is accurate, answering incoming phone calls from outbound truck drivers. This candidate will need to demonstrate a general understanding and knowledge of the transportation industry, invoicing, electronic bills, and transportation planning. Must be able to learn shipping software (INFOR), finished products, reporting logistics performance measures, finished tube weight, and truckload weight requirements.
Responsibilities
Ensure loads are picked up, packed, staged, and ready for shipment.
Verifies that truck attains minimum weight for shipment.
Assists in inventory tag control issues for staging. Corrects scanned tags on loads.
In the absence of the Logistics Manager procure trucks for shipment.
Follows procedures for distribution and inventory management to maximize customer satisfaction and minimize cost.
Works with stagers to create staging reports for loads to be pulled.
Creates shipping packets based on load confirmation. The packets include handwritten BOL, tarp documents, and pick/staging lists to be used when loading trucks.
In the absence of a shipping associate takes the lead in answering all incoming phone calls from outbound truck drivers checking in and out.
Updates the freight report times and updates check-in log.
Maintains the schedule and distributes inbound unload numbers for steel receiving.
Verifies and completes load paperwork is accurate and distributes documents to loaders.
Scan paperwork for electronic distribution via email.
Updates shipping report.
Ensure customer's specialty paperwork is completed accurately and timely.
Required Education and Experience
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Associate's degree preferred.
At least two years of relevant experience is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business application software, purchasing, and resource planning systems.
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong problem solver with an eye for detail and an analytical mind.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates knowledge of transportation requirements from company to state level.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality with internal and external customers.
