We are currently looking for a Design Project Manager to join our Design Operations team located at our office in Granite City, IL . Our ideal candidate for a Design Project Manager is someone who has 5 years of experience e in project management within mechanical design, engineering or construction industries. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of mechanical design and engineering projects. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients and internal project teams, coordinating resources, schedules, and deliverables to ensure successful project outcomes. Design Project managers work closely with the VDC, Engineering, and Commissioning teams to align project scope with production capacity and delivery timelines.
Primary responsibilities for iENG’s Design Project Manager include:
Managing multiple concurrent design projects from initiation through close-out, including scope management, scheduling, resource coordination, and budget tracking.
Serving as the primary client liaison through the project lifecycle, ensuring expectations are clearly set and consistently met.
Coordinating with VDC, engineering, and commissioning teams to develop project schedules, assign tasks, and monitor progress against project milestones.
Managing subcontractors, including delegated design and third party resources, to ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and execution strategy.
Tracking project budgets and identify cost variances.
Facilitating project design meetings, design reviews, and coordination meeting with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
Managing iENG project documentation including contracts, change orders, scope deliverables, and design logs.
Proactively identifying project risks and developing mitigation strategies to minimize schedule and financial impact.
Supporting the estimating process by providing input on scope, schedule and resource requirements for change orders
Primary qualifications for iENG’s Design Project Manager include:
5+ years experience in project management within the mechanical design, engineering, or construction industry.
Working knowledge of mechanical systems, MEP design workflows, and construction document sets.
Experience with project management tools and BIM/VDC environments.
PMP certification or equivalent project management training preferred. Bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.
Willing to travel on an as needed basis.
Ability to interpret and identify potential problems or risks and come up with creative solutions.
