About The Work Unit
Our research mission is to transform the discipline of nursing through research, practice and partnerships and to contribute to the social advancement and health of Tennessee, the nation, and the world. Vanderbilt School of Nursing supports the development of innovative research programs within VUSN to align strategically with other Vanderbilt University initiatives and that address national priorities to promote and protect health. The Center for Research Development and Scholarship supports many activities related to pre‑award and post‑award, federal and non‑federal grant submission and other scholarship activities.
Key Functions and Expected Performance
Assists with preparation and continuing reviews of IRB applications.
Assists with collecting and compiling data for preparation of research grant applications and of active studies.
Assists in preparing data for analysis, identifying problems and cleaning as needed.
Performs research participant screening, recruitment, and scheduling of research related activities.
Collects physiologic and survey data, and interviews research participants face‑to‑face as well as virtually.
Monitors research participation progression throughout the study and reports any participant or study problems to the study PI and other required parties, as needed.
Assists participants in completing surveys and other forms.
Assists in the development and maintenance of study databases and electronic record systems.
Conveys pertinent clinical/research information concisely to required parties to assure that the integrity and quality of the data is maintained.
Assists on audits/reviews of completion and accuracy of hard copy and electronic data.
Conducts research related supplies inventory and ordering.
Performs testing and maintains appropriate storage of equipment, troubleshooting when needed.
Formats edits, and proofreads research related documents, summaries, and progress reports.
Develops and updates forms and other processes related to IRB submissions.
Assists with manuscript preparation and submission, including formatting references according to journal‑specific guidelines.
Provides timely, effective communication and documentation with all relevant members according to HIPAA and VU/VUSN/VUMC policies.
Understands and complies with all VU/VUSN/VUMC policies and procedures.
Keeps team informed of project status and planned activities.
Provides additional administrative support, as needed.
Education and Certifications
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required.
Experience and Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community are required.
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports is required.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment is required.
Ability to manage and work on multiple projects is required.
Ability to work in‑person is required.
Ability to work and interact with patients at VUMC is required.
At least 1‑3 years of experience working in an applied health, research, or clinical setting is strongly preferred.
PubMed, Microsoft Office 365, and REDCap experience is strongly preferred.
