Medical Assistant (MA) – Westside Internal Medicine
Location: West office and Green township. 60% of the role involves phlebotomy.

Job Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant is a key component of our team, working closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care. The role includes reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations while ensuring work stays within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines.

Essential Functions

Provides excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner.

Prepares and reviews patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.

Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.

Performs clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.

Troubleshoots and resolves problems promptly.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Degree or GED.

Licensure/Certification

Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required): CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, or NCCT.

If the incumbent cannot obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR‑OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina).

BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for certain locations; preferred at hire, required before independent patient care at BSMH).

Experience

One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).

Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).

Skills & Abilities

Possesses problem‑solving skills, basic computer skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Engages with staff and patients in a professional manner.
