Overview
Job Description
At NorthBay Health the Medical Assistant I is responsible for providing direct patient care in support of a provider in an ambulatory care setting under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. The Medical Assistant I may administer medications upon completion of medication administration course and specific supervision of a physician. Distribution of staff and patients may require reassignment to other areas.
Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in an ambulatory setting under physician supervision.
Administer medications upon completion of the medication administration course and under physician supervision.
Contribute to staffing distribution and patient reassignment as needed.
Demonstrate professional conduct and maintain patient confidentiality.
Qualifications
Education
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Program or additional class work in medication administration required.
Licensure/Certification
Medical Assistant certification required within 6 months of hire.
Current AHA certification or equivalent in basic CPR.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred.
Program or additional classwork regarding medication administration required within 6 months of hire.
MA medication administration competency checklist completion required within 6 months of hire.
Experience
One year of experience in ambulatory care setting preferred.
Previous experience with medication administration.
Skills
Demonstrated effective time management skills.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing ambulatory nursing care for patients in age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal.
Knowledge of medical terminology.

Compensation Structure

NorthBay Health uses a structured compensation framework. Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1–5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role. Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan. Physician compensation is structured based on specialty and role requirements.
