
Veterinary Technician/Assistant – Seasonal

Seasonal Schedule: Up to 28 hours/week; days and hours vary

What You’ll Do
You’ll play a key role in the shelter’s medical teams supporting exams, surgery, and treatment while helping ensure animals receive safe, timely, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with exams, surgery, anesthesia, and post‑procedure monitoring
Administer medications, vaccines, and calculate accurate dosages
Triage incoming animals and assess medical needs and behavior
Perform lab work, radiographs, and basic diagnostic procedures
Maintain sterile environments, disinfect equipment, and document care in shelter systems
What You Bring – Education & Experience
Associate degree in veterinary technology or related field OR
One year of hands‑on experience in animal care, vet clinics, or a similar setting
Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of varying temperaments
Strong multitasking skills in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment
Preferred Certifications
Fear Free Shelter Certification (required within 30 days of hire)
Rabies and tetanus vaccinations (required within 1 year)
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Knowledge of anesthesia, intubation, and patient monitoring
Experience with lab equipment and diagnostic procedures
Understanding of animal behavior, medical terminology, and treatment protocols
Ability to maintain accurate records and manage controlled substances
