NextCare Urgent Care is seeking a
licensed Physician (MD or DO)
to serve in a
full-time Supervising Physician capacity while also providing direct patient care
in our Colorado clinics. This role combines
clinical practice with physician leadership , supporting Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) through supervision, mentorship, and clinical oversight while maintaining an active presence in the clinic.
The position is
in-person and clinic-based , with physicians participating in scheduled clinical shifts while also fulfilling supervisory and quality oversight responsibilities in alignment with
Colorado Medical Board regulations
and NextCare clinical standards.
Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced urgent care environment, evaluating and treating patients presenting with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries.
Perform urgent care procedures including suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, wound care, and other minor procedures.
Order and interpret diagnostic studies such as labs, X-rays, and EKGs.
Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care delivery.
Supervision, Quality & Compliance
Establish and maintain required supervision agreements with Physician Assistants who have fewer than
5,000 hours of clinical practice , as required under Colorado law.
Provide guidance to ensure APP practice remains within scope, training, and experience.
Conduct structured, periodic chart reviews and provide feedback aligned with NextCare protocols and evidence-based standards.
Support clinical quality improvement and provider development initiatives.
Serve as a clinical resource for APPs during clinic operating hours for complex or escalated cases.
Support compliance with prescribing practices, including controlled substances, in alignment with state and organizational policies.
Ensure appropriate documentation, evaluation processes, and scope alignment are maintained for supervising relationships.
Partner with Medical Leadership, Operations, and Credentialing teams to support consistent, compliant clinical practice across the Colorado market.
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Active, unrestricted
Colorado medical license
Board Certification in
Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine
Active
DEA registration
Minimum
5 years of clinical experience
(Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine preferred)
Familiarity with
Colorado PA and NP supervision requirements
