Statement of Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Health Information Management Manager, maintains medical record integrity with the proper processing and analyzing outpatient medical records.
Full-time position requiring 80 hours per pay‑period, Monday‑Friday, no weekends or holidays.
Job Functions
Analyzes the daily outpatient medical records.
Analyzes series records daily (e.g., ED, Physical Rehab, Cardio Pulm Rehab, ST, PT, OT, etc.).
Prints and distributes final X-ray reports read by consulting radiologic group. Also faxes facesheets to this group for billing purposes.
Assists hospital staff, physicians, patients, and guests with inquiries regarding medical information.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
Preparation and Training: High school level of knowledge preferred with a one or two year college level Medical Secretary or Medical Record Technician curriculum. Must demonstrate some working knowledge in the use of a computer terminal.
Work Experience: Two years’ experience as a Medical Secretary is preferred. Employee must be able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of medical terminology, accuracy, good grammar, and punctuation skills.
Attendance: Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared, and remain for their entire schedule.
Analytical Ability: Average analytical ability is necessary when organizing reports.
Independent Judgement: Responsible for maintaining standards of this position. Leader shall be contacted if questions arise.
Contact with Others: Communicates well with co-workers, other hospital staff, physicians, and guests.
Supervising the Work of Others: None.
Responsibility for Welfare of Others: Employee must realize the importance of confidentiality at all times. The identification of patient medical records must be accurate.
Mental / Visual Effort: Must speak and write English clearly. Must be able to see and hear (or use prosthetics) needed for job. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Visual acuity and color perception necessary for routine procedures.
Working Conditions: Participates in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of standard precautions. OSHA job classification: Category II position, employee has no exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Background Check: Comprehensive background check and drug screening will be conducted as a condition of employment.
Drug Screen: Urine drug screening required for all positions, completed within 30 days of hire.
