
Patient Care Assistant - Ortho Unit | On-site BLS Training

Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of a licensed nurse, perform routine duties involving the care of medically ill acute or sub-acute patients.
Provide direct patient care and observe and report changes in patients’ behavior and physical status.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, oral and denture care, skin and nail care, bed making).
Promote and maintain mobility through ambulating, transferring, transporting, turning, positioning, lifting, and performing range‑of‑motion exercises.
Assist with nutrition and hydration, feeding patients and helping them with eating and drinking.
Assist with toileting and elimination, including the use of bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, and providing catheter care for incontinent patients.
Gather data and recognize abnormal findings, measuring and recording vital signs, weight, oral intake, output (urine, emesis, stool).
Additional Requirements
Orientation requires availability to complete Clinical Orientation on your first full week (Monday to Friday, 8:00‑5:00).

Reports to: Registered Nurse (RN)/Nurse Manager [JC 031001] and/or RN/Assistant Nurse Manager [JC 030303]

Required Education

Required Experience
None; note: minimum experience for float pool assignments is six (6) months.
Preferred Experience
One (1) year of job‑related experience preferred.
Certification / License / Registry
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required prior to performing patient care.
TMH may provide BLS certification training on‑site as part of clinical orientation if needed.
