Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists (TPHS) is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community. You will work as part of a cohesive team, performing patient imaging, assisting with unique neurologic examinations and tests including onsite CT & MRI, and aiding with anesthesia and neurosurgery. Client communication is a large component of this position.
Role Responsibilities
Assist veterinary technicians or neurologists with examinations and obtaining complete histories, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
Assist veterinary technicians with patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, and administering medications or drugs.
Demonstrate proficiency in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine and digital radiography positioning.
Handle high caseloads and stressful situations in a professional manner.
Understand medical terminology and veterinary pharmacology.
Work independently and as part of a team.
Assist in small animal surgery and recovery.
Assist with setting up for MRI and CT procedures.
Use computer systems as necessary to perform job functions.
Follow OSHA guidelines concerning safety and handling of hazardous materials.
Requirements
2–3 years of experience in a fast‑paced veterinary hospital or clinic; neurology or specialty experience preferred.
Must have anesthesia experience.
Certified veterinary assistant (CVA) certification preferred or willingness to obtain within six months of employment.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with co‑workers, clinicians, staff and pet owners.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be available for on‑call shifts at least one weekend per month and holidays as required.
