General Summary
The Supervisor, Asphalt Plant Production is responsible for overseeing plant operations, ensuring safe and efficient production, and leading plant personnel to meet operational, safety, and quality standards.
This role provides leadership, training, and performance management to plant employees while ensuring compliance with company policies, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT regulations.
The Supervisor will manage daily plant operations including production, maintenance planning, material inventory, and customer interactions. This position requires strong operational knowledge, leadership capability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Work schedules may include extended hours, nights, weekends, and overtime based on production demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Promote and enforce all safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
Train, develop, and monitor employee safety performance, including PPE compliance
Conduct safety meetings, coaching, and corrective actions as needed
Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT regulations
Oversee daily asphalt plant operations and production activities
Operate and become proficient in plant control systems (Astec Weighmate, PM2/PM3)
Manage order intake and dispatch using Command Alkon Integra system
Perform and oversee daily, weekly, and monthly plant and equipment inspections
Plan and schedule plant maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, and preventative maintenance
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and operational issues
Monitor environmental compliance and correct deficiencies
Inspect raw materials and finished products to ensure quality and temperature standards
Maintain accurate inventory levels of raw materials and coordinate supply needs
Communicate effectively with customers, haulers, vendors, and internal teams
Prepare reports related to production, maintenance, and operational performance
Support hiring, training, and development of plant personnel
Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed
Coordinate with other departments to ensure operational efficiency
Participate in team initiatives to achieve company goals
Lead by example and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong leadership and team development skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and regulations
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and analyze data
Problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple variables
Proficiency in computer systems (email, spreadsheets, reporting tools, etc.)
Mechanical and electrical aptitude
Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple projects
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate degree or technical training preferred
1–2 years of related experience in plant operations, production, or similar environment
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required
Ability to obtain Weighmaster License
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Combination of indoor office and outdoor plant environment
Exposure to changing weather conditions, loud noise, and industrial hazards
Moderate physical activity including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting (up to 100 lbs)
Exposure to dust, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and uneven terrain
Work Schedule
Schedule may include extended hours, nights, weekends, and overtime based on production needs
