
Recreation Specialist (Sailing Instructor)

Summary
Plans, schedules and conducts weekend basic keelboat courses in accordance with guidelines established by the U.S. Navy Sailing Association for military active duty personnel, their dependents, retirees and authorized civilians. The position is also responsible for instructing the summer and winter boater safety courses offered.
Duties
Work in conjunction with the scheduling administrator and prepare course materials.
Provide adequate supervision and instruction to ensure participant health and safety.
Accurately complete records and reports on student performance and boat maintenance.
Evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing courses and devise, improvise, and adapt sailing activities to fit water conditions, and to conform to limitations in funds, facilities, equipment and staff.
Assist the supervisor in developing the annual budget, procurement of equipment, formulating long‑range plans, safety programs and public‑relations undertakings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must successfully pass an E‑Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
Must have salary sent to a chosen financial institution via Direct Deposit or Electronic Funds Transfer.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a positively adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Must be ASA 101 certified and provide proof of certification at the time of application.
Qualifications
A strong background in sailing with a minimum of three years of experience, on‑water safety at an instructor level, good communication and teaching skills, the ability to work with a diverse range of students, past leadership experience or the desire to develop leadership abilities.
Additional Information
Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements. The selected candidate may be required to complete a one‑year probationary period. Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required. E‑Verify will be used to confirm eligibility to work in the United States. This announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies within 60 days of issuance of the selection certificate. For positions requiring travel more than twice per year, the selected candidate may need to obtain and maintain a Government‑issued Travel Card in good standing.
