Physical Education Teacher (High School)
Compensation
Base $64,500, Experience $200 per year, Advanced Degree-Masters $3,000; PhD $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits: Health (Medical, Vision, Dental), Short Term Disability, AAE, & Pension.
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Director, develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; foster an understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well‑being; motivate students toward physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization: Health & Physical Education.
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
Knowledge of grade‑specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, as well as relating to health education.
Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and best ways to promote physical and mental well‑being.
Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school related matters.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the course of work; parents, students, and faculty.
Prior to employment, complete the following requirements:
Complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1.
Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.
Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable.

Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials.
Requires the ability to work in noisy and crowded environments.
Occasionally requires stooping, bending, or reaching.
Requires some traveling.
Occasionally requires work outdoors dealing with school activities.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports.
Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; provides a safe and optimal learning environment; and gives appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn about current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Assists in coordinating extra‑curricular activities, including student performances, assemblies, and athletic events.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Inspects equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Certification / License
NJ Certification as a Physical Education Teacher.
NJ Certification as a Health Teacher preferred.
Driver's Education Certification
NJ Certification Teacher Of Driver's Education Preferred.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Works in standard office and school building environments.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with New Jersey state law (Title 18A) and the iLearn Schools Inc. board policies and procedures.
