What You’ll Do
As an Assistant Counselor, you’ll play a key role in supporting a variety of different Lead Counselors in various programs, and helping to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where campers thrive.

Anticipate program and camper needs, stepping in without waiting for direction, while maintaining respectful lead/assist dynamics

Support Lead Counselors in running daily activities, games, and special events

Assist with camper supervision during transitions, meals, pool time, and free play

Help de‑escalate camper conflicts with patience and consistency, reinforcing behavior expectations and positive redirection

Step into different programs or age groups as needed to keep camp running smoothly

Communicate with Lead Counselors and Onsite Leadership about camper needs, progress, and any concerns

Act as a mentor and role model for campers and Counselors in Training (CITs)

Set a positive example through professionalism, energy, and enthusiasm in all camp activities

This role is ideal for enthusiastic youth leaders who thrive as key support team members, balancing flexibility, camper engagement, and teamwork in a high‑energy camp setting

Experience with children ideally between the ages of 3–16, with strong behavior management and redirection strategies

Flexible & adaptable – You are comfortable moving between programs and groups to keep camp running seamlessly

Camper‑focused – You are skilled at de‑escalation, ensuring every child feels safe and supported

Clear communicator – You relay updates and concerns quickly and clearly

Problem‑solver – You think on your feet and help staff/campers overcome obstacles calmly

Schedule and Requirements

Full on‑site availability during the summer: June–August, Monday–Friday.

Hours: camp operates 7:30 am‑5:30 pm; team members typically work 35 hours per week within this timeframe.

Ability to commute to 2500 Main St, Lawrenceville, NJ.

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must be up to date on all immunizations and willing to provide emergency health information upon hire.

Ability to lift 50 lbs, respond quickly to emergencies, and work in an active, outdoor environment.

Perks and Benefits

Pay range: $16‑$17 /hour

FLSA Status: Seasonal full‑time, non‑exempt position under the FLSA.

Paid training: Remote training on safety, DEI, classroom management, and more, plus in‑person staff training the weekend prior to camp; training is paid at state minimum wage, or $12 /hr, whichever is higher.

All required background checks and certifications are fully reimbursed.

Summer Bonus: Earn an additional $40 per week for working six or more weeks with no absences.

Referral Bonus: Earn $50 per hired referral, with no referral limits.
