Post‑Doctoral Associate – Woodson

Position Posted at the University of Georgia within the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS). The role is a research post‑doctoral associate focused on developing groundwater models for southeast and coastal Georgia and assessing the economic, ecological, and social impacts of groundwater along the Georgia coastal region.
Location: Athens, GA. Salary: $55,000–$75,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Start Date: 02 Jan 2025. Duration: 1 year renewable up to 4 years.
Responsibilities

Develop a regional groundwater model for southeast and coastal Georgia and run future climate and development scenarios.
Co‑develop and implement research on the economic, ecological, and social impacts related to groundwater along the Georgia coastal region.
Participate in community outreach activities along the Georgia coastal region.
Support and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
Co‑author journal manuscripts, research reports, factsheets, and other written or video materials.
Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with project PIs regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory.
Qualifications

PhD in economics, civil, or environmental engineering, or related field completed by January 2025.
Experience in modeling with Visual ModFlow Flex 8 or other ModFlow versions.
Expertise in geospatial methods, data analysis and visualization.
Experience working on interdisciplinary teams.
Expertise in coupled human‑environment systems; record of publishing in peer‑reviewed journals; and experience communicating to diverse audiences.
Background

Employment Type: Employee. Schedule: Standard university business hours (M‑F), 40 hours/week.
