$82,000 – $173,502 annual/salary depending on level, education, and experience
Position Purpose
This position is responsible for teaching physical education to lower and middle school students, may also serve as an advisor to middle school students and coaching various sports at the middle school (4-8) grade level.
Specific Expectations for P-8 Faculty
In addition to regular teaching responsibilities (including but not limited to preparing curriculum and grade reporting, class prep, student reporting – report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, outdoor education/field trips, etc.), the following duties and responsibilities are required as part of the P-8 faculty/staff workload: professional development and training, attendance of or participation in mandatory meetings, conferences, teacher training workshops, and/or events (Director’s Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, etc.) are required as directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of the regular work schedule, non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.
Essential Functions
Teach a variety of sports and activities for Kindergarten through 8th grades
Responsible for coaching multiple sports teams
Middle School focused teachers (teach 3 or more MS classes) will coach at minimum 2 teams per season, as needed
Lower School focused teachers (teach 3 or more LS classes) will coach at minimum 1 team per season, as needed
Must have flexible hours after school to be able to coach on different days of the week, at different locations and times. Games and practices are during the school week (no weekends)
Must be able to collaborate and design lessons with the Physical Education and Athletic department
Utilize varied methods and approaches to material, integrating technology, assessments, projects, etc., to encourage and create engaged learning in the classroom
Respond to evaluations and feedback professionally and constructively; demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with parents
Serve as a middle school advisor and teach SEL content during advisory classes
Perform other duties (recess, dismissal, etc.) as directed
Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use both in learning activities and in imaginative play
Performs other ad hoc duties, as assigned
Will be required to transport student-athletes to competitions using school vehicles in accordance with Sacred Heart Schools driving policies and eligibility requirements.
Adheres to all Sacred Heart Schools policies related to student safety, safeguarding, and mandatory reporting obligations.
Qualifications
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or closely related field of study. Master’s degree and/or a valid California single subject teaching credential strongly preferred
A minimum of three (3) years of teaching Physical Education
A valid first aid certificate from the American Red Cross, including CPR training
Obvious passion, skills, knowledge and ability for physical activity and sports
Enjoy working with children and have outstanding interpersonal skills
Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the SHS community
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria
Commitment to equity and inclusion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record. Clearance will be subject to California Vehicle Report review and Sacred Heart Schools insurance standards.
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
Must comply with all state vaccination requirements
Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a 64 acre campus
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
Work primarily in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
