Development Writer/Content Creator - Content Monetization Team

This role will produce service-driven financial content that aligns with USA TODAY's editorial standards while supporting strategic partnerships and affiliate initiatives. The primary focus will be personal finance and consumer service topics, including budgeting, identity theft protection, credit cards, loans, banking, investing, insurance, retirement planning, taxes, debt management and small-business formation.

The writer may also occasionally contribute to related service categories such as home services (home inspection, real estate appraisal, real estate legal services, warranties and related consumer topics).

Working closely with editors on the Content Monetization team, this writer will create clear, trustworthy and engaging content designed to help readers make informed financial decisions. Assignments may include explainers, provider comparisons, product and service reviews, and other consumer-focused guides that follow USA TODAY's commerce and editorial standards.

This role requires strong research skills, the ability to translate complex financial topics into accessible language, and experience writing optimized digital content that performs well in search while maintaining editorial credibility.

This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska, Hawaii and Wyoming.

Responsibilities

Write clear, accurate and reader-focused personal finance content across a variety of formats including guides, comparisons and reviews.

Conduct research using credible sources, data and expert insights to ensure accuracy and authority.

Follow USA TODAY editorial guidelines, commerce standards and disclosure requirements.

Collaborate with editors to revise and optimize content for clarity, accuracy and search performance.

Update existing content as needed to maintain accuracy and relevance.

Meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced digital newsroom environment.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience writing about personal finance, consumer services or small-business topics.

Ability to explain complex financial concepts in a clear, approachable way.

Familiarity with SEO-driven service journalism and digital publishing best practices.

Strong research and fact-checking skills.

Experience working in a newsroom, digital media organization or commerce content environment.

Compensation
The annualized base salary for this role will range between $50,500 and $78,906. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
