Position Type: Full Time | FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: District Court for Carroll County, Westminster, MD 21157

Shift Differential: $3.00/hr for hours worked between 5:00pm – 7:00am

Salary: $67,218

Main Purpose Of Job
District Court Commissioners are judicial officers whose primary function includes reviewing Applications for Statement of Charges by the public and police for the filing of criminal charges in the District Court. They may issue a Criminal Summons or an Arrest Warrant based on probable cause findings, determine pre‑trial release, accept Bail Bond monies, and secure release of incarcerated individuals. When the Circuit and District Courts are closed, they also consider civil petitions for interim Peace Orders and Protective Orders.

Education and Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Commissioners must reside in Carroll County or a contiguous county. Baltimore City residents are only eligible for consideration with Baltimore City District Court.

Upon hire, Commissioners must be CPR certified (renew every 24 months) and maintain NCIC CN5 certification for criminal record checks (renew every 24 months).

Skills and Abilities

Flexible to work day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts and be available 24/7.

Demonstrated computer experience and efficient typing skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.

Ability to make decisions based on applicable law and administrative regulations.

Capacity to perform all essential functions of the position.
