Addictions Counselor 1 (RC Ward ATC)

Duties

Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Functions as a primary counselor, managing all facets of clinical services to assigned patients caseload.

Provides individual and group brief therapy utilizing EBPs and facilitates a variety of clinical activities.

Works with co‑occurring mental health, gambling disorders and criminal justice mandated patients.

Presents/conducts lectures, videos, psycho‑educational groups, and specialty groups.

Intervenes when patients are in crisis and utilizes clinical skills to problem solve.

Interviews patients to complete various assessments; performs psycho‑social assessment as part of individual treatment plan development; monitors patients’ compliance with treatment goals.

Completes forms, documents, and records efficiently, including discharge planning, while adhering to all applicable confidentiality regulations.

Provides or coordinates all facets of patients’ care.

Seeks consultation with senior staff as needed.

Participates in activities to improve patient care and facility operations.

Completes patient records and monitors patient compliance with treatment goals.

Participates in meal preparation and distribution.

Uses a computer proficiently for patient documentation and other required communication.

Transports patients as needed using NYS vehicle.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Current employment as an Addictions Counselor 1, or current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), CASAC Level 2, CASAC‑Advanced Counselor, or CASAC Master Counselor in New York State, or eligibility for transfer.

in New York State.

For permanent, non‑competitive appointment under the Civil Service Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program, current registration as a

Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)

in NYS is required.

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, the title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment; no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

Within one year of permanent appointment, employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non‑competitive employment status converted to competitive status without a required examination.

Position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.

Candidates must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs; failure to maintain licensure, certification, and Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in termination of employment.

Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position and is essential for maintaining staffing and client safety.

Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $59,994 – $76,359* (plus location pay of $2,000 and $575 inconvenience pay). Salary is determined by NYS Civil Service Law, OSC payroll rules, and negotiated union contracts.

Background Investigation Requirements
Prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL), will undergo a criminal background check (CBC) including state and federal criminal history, and will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Convictions, falsified or omitted information on the application may bar appointment.
