
BI Intern

RCN Capital is a national, direct private lender supporting real estate investors across the country. RCN Capital’s Technology – Business Intelligence team is seeking a motivated Business Intelligence Intern to support our ongoing data transformation initiatives. This internship provides hands‑on experience with Power BI reporting, cloud data modernization, and Azure migration activities. Interns will learn how BI tools support real business operations and will work alongside technology leadership to assist with dashboarding, data modeling, and analytics in a rapidly evolving environment.
The role is designed for students with strong analytical potential who are excited to learn modern BI development practices and contribute to real‑world projects that improve visibility, reporting efficiency, and decision‑making across the organization.
Responsibilities
Assist with building and enhancing Power BI dashboards and datasets.
Support migration‑related tasks as the BI environment moves from on‑prem systems into Azure cloud.
Help analyze, clean, and prepare data for reporting and analytics workloads.
Participate in team meetings, sprint reviews, and technical discussions with BI, DevOps, and Infrastructure.
Work with senior BI developers to learn best practices in data modeling, DAX, semantic models, and workspace organization.
Contribute to documentation for BI processes, data dictionaries, and report specifications.
Perform exploratory analysis on business datasets and present findings to technical leadership.
Assist with ad‑hoc BI and analytics tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Strong analytical mindset with interest in data visualization, BI, analytics, or cloud technologies.
Foundational understanding of SQL concepts (coursework acceptable).
Basic familiarity with Excel or any data analysis tools.
Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate across teams.
Curiosity and eagerness to learn modern BI technologies (Power BI, Azure).
Actively pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Mathematics/Statistics, or a related technical discipline.
Coursework or exposure to programming concepts (Python, R, or similar is a plus).
Exposure to data analysis or statistics through academic projects.
Exposure to Power BI or other visualization tools through coursework or personal projects preferred
Familiarity with cloud concepts (Azure, AWS, or GCP) at a conceptual level preferred
Understanding of basic data modeling concepts (SQL, tables, relationships, schemas) preferred
Experience from academic, internship, or personal projects using data analysis, visualization, or dashboarding tools preferred
Familiarity with GitHub, Azure DevOps, or similar project collaboration tools preferred
Education Paths of Interest
Working toward a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Mathematics/Statistics, or a related field.
