What We're Looking For
GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) is a development‑focused role designed to prepare an individual to manage their own store. Under the leadership of a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands‑on program teaches the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.
What You'll Do
As a SMIT, you will learn and be expected to lead, coach, and support your team to provide exceptional service and guidance to customers. You will support the store’s daily operations, including business performance, product management, and ensure your team has the tools to succeed.
Engage with your leader in training initiatives, projects, and goals to support your path to promotion.
Support the total shopping experience, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and customer relationships that drive sales and repeat business.
Achieve and exceed personal sales and productivity goals while helping sales associates reach their potential.
Build strong teams, demonstrate leadership and managerial skills, give feedback to associates, recruit, hire, and manage performance.
Open, close, and operate the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory count, and deposits according to procedures.
Attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization’s mission and initiatives.
Selection for the SMIT position does not guarantee promotion. At the end of 90 days, performance will be evaluated for eligibility for a Store Manager position.
Environmental Factors & Working Schedule
Stand or walk up to eight hours a day.
Frequent reaching, bending, and twisting both below waist and above shoulders.
Use repetitive hand‑to‑finger motions and reach with hands and arms.
Lift up to twenty pounds, occasionally up to forty pounds; push/pull up to twenty pounds.
Climb ladders, reach, and bend.
Work in temperatures ranging from 50–85°F, especially in stock rooms.
Use a computer up to 60% of the time.
SMITs work five days per week (40 hours) and adhere to the following schedule:
Mall and strip‑center stores: at least two nights during the week until closing, one weekend night and one other night.
Strip‑center SMITs: must also work a full shift on Saturdays.
Mall SMITs: expected to work peak business days including weekends (Saturday & Sunday).
SMITs: at least one full Sunday per month.
Downtown SMITs: must work lunch hour 11 am–2 pm Monday–Friday and one evening night if the store is open.
Downtown SMITs: not required to work Saturdays.
SMITs are expected to work all major U.S. holidays when the store is open.
