About the Role
As a Material Planner I based at Rocket Lab’s global headquarters in Long Beach, CA, you will manage material requirements planning (MRP) and planning for every part Rocket Lab makes or buys. You will coordinate with engineering, quality, production, supply chain, and finance to ensure production schedules, supplier lead times, inventory levels, and engineering build timelines are adequately planned and communicated.
Supply Chain Context
The Supply Chain team is responsible for the flow of all materials, products, and components throughout the business. They set up assembly kits for Electron rockets, manage inventory and shipping, oversee procurement, and ensure all materials comply with quality standards.
What You’ll Get To Do
Demand, supply, and fulfillment planning within MRP.
Maintain bill of materials, parts, and master data in ERP.
Release purchase planning messages to procurement in a timely manner.
Release work orders to production promptly.
Update demand to accommodate engineering change orders and communicate changes to procurement.
Create visibility of material position with line of balance reports, material shortage reports, clear‑to‑build reports, etc.
Work cross‑functionally as a strong team player and collaborate with other groups to achieve company‑wide goals.
Perform other duties as assigned by your manager relevant to the role.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Proven ability to produce material line of balance and conduct clear‑to‑build reviews.
Knowledge of material planning fundamentals: master data management, order policy, BOM management, and planning release and fulfillment.
Proficiency in MRP systems.
Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems, math, and statistics.
Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications
Prior experience in aerospace, electric vehicle automotive, or other disruptive manufacturing industries.
Experience in a rapid‑growth environment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Experience with AS9100, US export controls.
Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Team‑oriented, strong multi‑tasking ability, and ability to handle fast‑paced environments and multiple deadlines.
Additional Requirements
Vision: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
Skilled in sitting, using hands and fingers, operating a computer keyboard, and communicating verbally and in writing.
Must be physically able to commute to buildings.
Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate levels of noise.
Base Pay & Benefits
Base Pay Range (CA Only): $58,000—$73,000 USD.
