Location: North Windham, CT | Main Manufacturing Facility
United Abrasives, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing to support machine, tool, and equipment design at our North Windham, Connecticut manufacturing facility . This position plays a key role in supporting our U.S.-based manufacturing operations by designing, modifying, and improving production equipment used in the manufacture of high-quality abrasive products.
The ideal candidate is practical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly with fabrication, machining, and facilities teams to take projects from concept through build and implementation.
Responsibilities Design and modify production machinery, tooling, and manufacturing equipment.
Support fabrication, machining, and assembly of large-scale production equipment.
Work closely with fabrication and facilities personnel to ensure designs are practical, safe, and manufacturable.
Manage parts procurement and assist with inventory control for engineering projects.
Create, maintain, and update mechanical drawings and documentation for machining and assembly.
Apply sound machining and manufacturing principles in the design of mechanical components.
Support equipment improvements and manufacturing efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial mechanical design and manufacturing environments.
Strong understanding of tool design and part machining techniques.
Working knowledge of metallurgy and material selection.
Strong 3D CAD design skills required; KeyCreator experience is a plus.
Proven ability to take a concept from initial design through fabrication and implementation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis.
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to read and troubleshoot electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is a plus.
Self-directed, reliable, and willing to learn new skills in a manufacturing-focused environment.
