Job Title : Facilities Associate
Job Summary
The Facilities Associate supports all aspects of facility operations, including sanitation, preventive maintenance, repairs, and the overall upkeep of the building, grounds, and equipment. This role requires a hands-on individual with strong mechanical and general maintenance skills, capable of performing a wide range of tasks in both warehouse and office environments. The Facilities Associate plays a critical role in ensuring the facility remains safe, functional, and compliant, while proactively identifying and resolving maintenance issues.
Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
Perform general maintenance duties (painting, minor repairs, light construction) using approved, food-safe materials to prevent contamination.
Complete repairs to doors, walls, fixtures, and shelving while maintaining sanitary, cleanable surfaces and preventing pest entry points.
Perform routine maintenance (lighting, ceiling tiles, minor electrical work) to ensure safe and properly maintained conditions.
Assist with the installation and relocation of equipment and fixtures, ensuring proper placement and minimizing food safety risks.
Support preventive maintenance programs, including inspections and pest prevention measures, in compliance with AIB standards.
Identify and address maintenance issues; escalate food safety risks (e.g., leaks, mold, pests, structural damage, temperature concerns) immediately.
Follow GMPs, AIB standards, and food safety protocols, including proper chemical handling and sanitation practices.
Maintain awareness of cross-contamination risks and ensure work does not impact food storage or distribution areas.
Ensure all work areas are maintained in a condition suitable for AIB audits and food safety inspections.
Equipment Operation & Elevated Work
Operate equipment such as scissor lifts, forklifts, and pallet jacks to perform maintenance and cleaning tasks.
Perform elevated work, including changing lights, cleaning high surfaces, and completing overhead repairs.
Follow all safety procedures, including fall protection and equipment operation protocols.
Maintain required certifications and adhere to safe operating practices for all powered equipment.
Facility Sanitation & Cleanliness
Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized facility, including warehouse, office areas, restrooms, coolers, and freezers.
Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and waste removal.
Clean and sanitize restrooms and ensure supplies are fully stocked.
Remove trash, debris, and spills promptly to maintain a safe environment.
Warehouse & Grounds Support
Clean and maintain warehouse aisles, docks, coolers, and freezer floors.
Maintain exterior areas, including parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances.
Support recycling operations, including cardboard baling and material handling.
Ensure all work areas and walkways are clean, organized, and hazard-free.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
Comply with applicable safety standards (e.g., OSHA, HACCP, AIB) and organizational safety protocols.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures.
Complete and document work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily and weekly logs of maintenance, sanitation, and repair activities.
Keep accurate records of inspections and preventive maintenance.
Ensure the facility is inspection-ready at all times.
Immediately report unsafe conditions or unrepairable issues.
Operational Support
Assist with special projects, facility upgrades, and emergency repairs.
Provide backup support to the Facilities Supervisor as needed.
Collaborate with internal teams to support operational efficiency.
Performance Expectations
Maintain the facility in a safe, clean, and fully operational condition at all times.
Complete maintenance and repair tasks efficiently with high-quality workmanship.
Demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of equipment and tools.
Complete all assigned work orders within established timeframes and with proper documentation.
Ensure logs are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and urgent facility needs.
Proactively identify and resolve issues before escalation.
Maintain compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
Qualifications / Requirements
High school diploma or GED required.
One (1) to three (3) years of facilities, maintenance, or handyman experience preferred.
Experience operating scissor lifts and forklifts required, or ability to become certified.
Basic knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair techniques.
Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair skills.
Ability to perform minor electrical, carpentry, and general facility repairs.
Knowledge of safety practices related to elevated work and equipment operation.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Alignment with core values of the organization.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Work performed in warehouse, office, and outdoor environments.
Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, including freezers and outdoor conditions.
Use of ladders and scissor lifts for elevated work.
Exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, and potentially hazardous materials.
Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and push/pull pallets weighing over 2,000 lbs.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, onsite at the facility and in the community as needed.
Occasional weekend or evening hours may be required.
