Rf Design Engineer
Actalent, East Brunswick, NJ, United States
Job Description
The RF Design Engineer will design, integrate, and validate RF and DC circuits for advanced RF amplifiers and modules used in demanding wireless communication, Satcom, radar, and electronic warfare applications. This role combines hands‑on circuit design, PCB layout, simulation, and testing, allowing you to own products from concept through to completion. Approximately half of your time will focus on RF design and the other half on testing and validating circuits to ensure they meet performance and product integration requirements.
Responsibilities
Incorporate newly designed and existing RF and DC circuits into RF amplifiers and other RF modules, ensuring they meet performance and integration requirements.
Use CAD software to create schematics and perform PCB layout for new product designs in accordance with accepted specifications and design standards.
Design and evaluate RF circuits via software simulation, including low‑noise amplifiers (LNAs), switches, filters, and MMICs, to achieve target performance metrics.
Design and evaluate DC circuits via software simulation, including DC/DC converters, logic gates, MOSFET‑based circuits, and operational amplifier circuits.
Test, evaluate, and construct engineering test pallets and fixtures for various circuits in support of current and upcoming amplifier designs.
Complete prototype circuit builds for RF field effect transistor (FET) device characterization to compare real‑world performance with simulated results and refine designs accordingly.
Validate newly released amplifier designs to ensure they operate in accordance with target performance specifications and system‑level requirements.
Perform RF and DC measurements to verify gain, signal‑to‑noise ratio (SNR), error vector magnitude (EVM), and other key RF performance parameters.
Collaborate with other RF engineers and cross‑functional teams to ensure that circuit designs integrate effectively into final products.
Contribute to product development activities involving multilayer PCB designs, typically in the range of 6 to 8 layers.
Document design decisions, test results, and performance data to support product release and future design improvements.
Support continuous improvement of design and test processes to enhance product quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
At least 3 years of experience with RF design and circuit design.
Hands‑on experience designing RF circuits such as LNAs, switches, filters, and MMIC‑based designs.
Experience designing DC circuits including DC/DC converters, logic circuits, MOSFET‑based stages, and op‑amp circuits.
Proficiency with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, with the ability to work on multilayer PCB designs (typically 6 to 8 layers).
Ability to use RF and circuit simulation tools to model and optimize RF and DC circuits.
Strong understanding of RF concepts such as gain, signal‑to‑noise ratio (SNR), and error vector magnitude (EVM).
Experience testing and validating RF and DC circuits, including building and evaluating prototypes and test pallets.
Ability to compare simulated and measured performance and refine designs accordingly.
Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail in both design and test activities.
Ability to work effectively in a product development environment and see designs through from concept to completion.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in aerospace, defense, or telecommunications industries.
Familiarity with RF amplifiers and integrated RF modules used in wireless communications, Satcom, radar, ISR, or electronic warfare applications.
Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout, or similar CAD tools such as those in the Cadence ecosystem.
Experience working on products that require robust performance in challenging RF environments.
Comfort working in a collaborative team of RF engineers with varying levels of experience.
Interest in contributing to a growing engineering organization with opportunities for impact and professional development.
