Job Summary
This position is for a full‑time traveling assignment supporting our Advanced Technology Group. Previous biotech/pharma experience is strongly preferred.
Design Manager Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Determine fundamental direction of design, continuously lead the entire design team and design process from the first step in the design phase (schematic design) through execution until completion.
Serve as an integral part of the construction team, working closely with the Project Executive/Manager and performing a decisive leadership role.
Establish appropriate scopes and contractual agreements between designers necessary to deliver the project.
Communicate effectively between designers, the construction team and client representatives.
Review and approve all construction and shop drawings generated by design partners and subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
Manage the timely delivery of all design documents.
Generate and coordinate relevant subcontractor contractual language relating to design.
Initiate design reviews and leverage opportunities to optimize design, improve constructability, and detect risks.
Apply lean principles to minimize costs and accelerate the delivery of design preparation, strive for efficient design through prefabrication and other lean techniques, enhance safety in design, and balance initial and life‑cycle costs.
Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Engineering or Architecture and a minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering or design project management, including the construction administration portion of engineering and design management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Previous industry experience as a designer (desired).
Extensive designing and estimating experience.
Ability to think in a highly structured manner across all design disciplines, with creativity to develop specialized solutions and anticipate potential challenges and opportunities.
Cross‑functional knowledge of key engineering disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP/HVAC, etc.) and relevant trades.
A collaborative approach involving design specialists, experts, consultants, and support personnel.
Enjoyment of working in a professional interdisciplinary team environment while maintaining an independent and professional design perspective.
Leadership skills to lead large teams and achieve goals.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is estimated to be $170,000.00 - $264,000.00 annualized, which represents the company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
