Senior Scientist - siRNA Off-Target Analysis

Amgen SA, Thousand Oaks, CA, United States

Senior Scientist - siRNA Off-Target Analysis (TSRS)
What you will do
In this role, you will apply expertise in transcriptomics, computational biology, data visualization, and mechanistic interpretation to design and execute siRNA off‑target assessments and deliver weight‑of‑evidence reports and regulatory draft reports. You will develop scalable analysis pipelines, promote FAIR data practices, and explore AI‑enabled analytical workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

Build, run and improve end‑to‑end computational transcriptomics assessment workflows for siRNA off‑target assessments.

Apply transcriptomics, proteomics, biology and fit‑for‑purpose statistics to identify, interpret and communicate signals and potential risk, in collaboration with the TSRS Project Team.

Produce rigorous, traceable weight‑of‑evidence outputs such as slide decks, technical summaries and regulatory reports.

Develop and maintain reusable computational tools and scripts in Python and R for analysis, visualization, automation and reporting.

Partner closely with toxicologists, data scientists, in vitro scientists, oligonucleotide scientists and cross‑functional teams to refine analytical approaches and translate results into actionable insights.

Ensure reliable FAIR‑aligned data/metadata flow and reproducible execution across workflows.

Evaluate and apply AI‑enabled approaches (e.g., LLM‑assisted or agentic tools) to improve analytical efficiency, consistency and knowledge capture.

What we expect of you
We seek a Senior Scientist with the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree (PhD, PharmD or MD)

or Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science or related discipline

or Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting off‑target analysis, risk assessment or mechanistic interpretation for oligonucleotide or other therapeutic modalities.

Strong background in computational biology and transcriptomic data analysis in a research or drug discovery environment.

Demonstrated expertise in bulk RNA‑seq analysis.

Experience with single‑cell RNA‑seq and proteomics analysis and interpretation.

Strong understanding of molecular and cellular biology and ability to translate findings into biological insights.

Experience with nonclinical safety data and knowledge of toxicology in drug development.

Strong programming expertise in Python and R, with experience developing reproducible computational workflows.

Experience applying basic statistical methods to biological datasets for analysis and decision support.

Experience preparing scientific reports and presentations for cross‑functional teams and drafting regulatory documents.

Experience managing analytical data flow and implementing FAIR data principles.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and contribute in a cross‑functional team environment.

Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex computational and biological concepts.

Experience evaluating or developing AI‑enabled scientific workflows, including LLM‑assisted analyses or agentic tools.

What you can expect from us

Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

Comprehensive employee benefits package: retirement and savings plan with company contributions, group medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts.

Discretionary annual bonus program (and sales‑based incentive plan for field sales).
